Foreword
The Guardia di Finanza is a police Corps with a military structure, which, ever since its origins, has developed competences in the field of prevention and suppression of economic-financial violations. Beside this priority role, having been born as a Corps entrusted with frontier defense, it has always carried out Customs surveillance tasks.
Through a process of progressive evolution of its structure and tasks, the Guardia di Finanza today has assumed the features of a modern economic-financial police organization.
In the last few years, with the enlargement of the sphere of financial economic interests to encompass the wider framework of the European Union, the national legislator has revisited its institutional profile through special legislation, conferring on the Corps inspective powers more suitable to the relevant scenario and enhancing the international reach in the Customs and police cooperation circuits.
